This is just a quick, post. I did an inspection this last Thursday, to check up on our queen, and to see how things were going in there.
I saw good brood patterns in the bottom brood box:
She has filled the frame well, and with a fairly solid brood pattern, which is good to see. The four middle frames were filled with brood like this.
I saw that the bees had eaten lots of honey on the outside of upper super:
This frame was extremely light, which is a reversal from what it was the last time we looked through the super. This has probably been lost to feeding new brood and bees, as well as some of the robbing we saw in the past.
The next frame did have more honey:
Moving in further – about the fourth frame in – I saw our new queen laying:
Once again this is the upper super that she is laying in – she should move up and down and reduce the amount of laying she does as the summer wains. A good honey flow will cause her to move down to lay exclusively in the lower box as they fill the upper boxes with honey.
We also saw that they were eating the honey out of the filled frames in the top super:
We’ll leave this super on the hive for the next month, and hope for a good flow, and perhaps we’ll get some honey this season!
